Delta Colorado is one of the more populous cities located in the Western Slope of Colorado, with a population of 8,915 at the 2010 census. In total, there were 3,530 households and 2,337 families in the city, with a total of 3,825 housing units.
Delta is located along major highways such as US Highway 50, and State Highways 65 and 92. The nearest airport is Montrose Regional Airport, located 21 miles south of the city.
The city is home to numerous local parks such as Pow Wow Arbor, Mountain View Pavilion, and Emerald Hills Park, as well as historic landmarks like the Egyptian Theatre, and Fort Uncompahgre, a fur trading post established in 1828, which has been recently reconstructed.
The city is also home to the headquarters for the United States Forest Service, who serve in the nearby state parks, such as Grand Mesa National Forest, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison.
Delta is a popular tourist destination in the Western Slope, with adventure expeditions to nearby parks, skydiving, whitewater rafting and fishing, hunting, and mountain biking available in and around the town, as well as several historic Native American sites and nearby golf courses.
Education is provided by the Delta County School District, which operates 8+ schools in the area, as well as the Technical College of the Rockies, which provides post-secondary education in the area.
